In Palestine, in
the city of Bethlehem, very close to the Basilica of the Nativity, our sisters
have a home for handicapped children, who are either abandoned or are in grave
need. This house is dedicated to the Child Jesus and was founded in 2006. The
main reason for this home is to provide a safe place for children in the region
of Bethlehem, Ramallah, Jenin and Hebron. We hope to provide them the warmth of
a family, an education according to their possibilities and whatever else they
may need. We put
maximum attention on the child’s education and emotional needs.
Our sisters are
convinced that every child born is a gift to humanity and has among us a place
and an irreplaceable message. Their dedication consists principally in the
complete assistance to the twenty handicapped children who live with them. They
provide their meals, helping them to eat, take care of their hygienic needs,
their medical needs. They provide the children with an adequate education,
organize recreational activities, take care of many legal costs, etc. In other
words they are directly dedicated to the children together with the daily
maintenance of the home.
All the children
in residence attend some type of special school which gives them the possibility
not only to improve their learning and development, but also to have a schedule
which is similar to other children.
Each child is
provided with the necessary nutrition, clothing, hygene and when needed
specialists such as nutritionist, pediatric, dental, physical therapy.
In order to
confront the daily challenges, to aid our children develop in a dignified
manner, our sisters rely on God’s Divine Providence which is manifested by means
of generous people who permit them to continue this delicate and necessary work.
At the same time due to the precarious political, social and economical
situation that is found in Bethlehem, our sisters often find themselves
receiving many needy families who come knocking on their door asking for diverse
types of help.
